MOTORING PIONEERS IN BUCHARESTThe Bucharest Municipality Museum, in partnership with the Romanian Retromobil Club, invites you Saturday, August 1st, at 18h00 at the opening of the exhibition “Motoring pioneers in Bucharest”, at Suţu Palace. The exhibition presents the beginning of motoring in Romania, as well as sequences of Bucharest public transportation.
The public will be able to admire, along with the exhibition organized on the fence of Suţu Palace, a number of vintage cars belonging to the members of the Romanian Retromobil Club. The first automobiles with independent propulsion systems in Romania were two trucks manufactured at Garner-Serpollet, which ran on steam engines, and began circulating the streets of Bucharest starting with 1895. The first registered vehicle, with the number 1 on its license plate, registration which occurred in 1900 at the Bucharest Circulation Service, was a car with an internal combustion engine made in Liege, and belonging to the owner of Assan Mill. Prince Bibescu also had a passion for motor sports, and ordered a car from the Liege factory. Five years later, over 50 were registered in Bucharest. |
