The Princely Court Medieval Festival First Edition
Friday September 25th 2015 17:00 – Conference on warfare and military garb during the Medieval ages - Trabanţii Negrii – and how it culminated in HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), held by the Societas Milites Getae Association. HEMA represents armed and unarmed martial arts techniques of European origin. These are based on documented methods that ceased being practiced at some point, or that gave evolved into other forms of martial arts. With HEMA, martial art forms specific to the Medieval Ages are practiced – techniques based on treaties and battle manuals of the late Middle Ages, describing techniques for dueling, self-defense, and war strategies, utilizing a wide array of weapons – and reaching all the way to early modern times – a period during which martial arts begin garnering interest as a practiced sport. Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of September 2015 11:00 – Opening parade: a march between Manuc Inn and the Old Princely Court, where the honors will be given. After their salute, the guard shall retreat towards the old Throne Room; 12:00 – Workshop for children – “Medieval Architecture at The Old Princely Court” with the History of Art Association; 12:00-18:00 – Demo fights with weapons specific to the 15th century (10 rounds, each lasting 3 minutes, in two sessions, morning and evening). The performances will be accompanied by explanations regarding the equipment and the fighting style used. After the performances an SMG member will explain the fighting techniques typical of the 15th century, practiced with HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) and the impact of this sport in Europe. 13:00 - “The Young Squire’s School” – Activities for children, who will be introduced to the world of medieval armor and weapons. 13:30 – “Protect the Captain” – an interactive activity between the SMG members and the children in the public. The children will be equipped with Styrofoam replicas of 15th century weapons. 14:00 – Traditional archery practice for visitors, under the guidance of SMG members. - The Presentation of a field tent specific of the times, at the entrance of which will be set up a weapons rack 15:00 - A presentation of the Trabantii Negrii History as Princely Guards of Wallachia 16:00 - Fire juggling, performed by a member of the SMG; 17:00 - Workshop for children – “Medieval Architecture at The Old Princely Court” with the History of Art Association; 19:00 – Closing parade for the day, a march between the Old Princely Court and the Manuc Inn, members of the SMG will be carrying lit torches.
