Comic Strip Salon – “Bucharest stories in Comic StripsThe second edition of the Comic Strip Salon – “Bucharest stories in Comic Strips”, brings together a collection of comics dedicated to Bucharest, and created over the span of three centuries, from the 19th to the present early 21st century.
The Salon’s concept was created by historian Dr. Adrian Majuru and the comic artist Mihai I. Grăjdeanu. This year’s guests are the Comic Strip Museum (Alexandru Ciubotariu) and the Toys Museum Association (engineer Cristian Dumitru). Read more “The city of Bucharest is to be seen as a veritable exam: in what ways can it fuel comic strips with stories deemed interesting!? It is a referral to an age we all have, even in later life. This age is kept somewhere, and often, in certain situations, remind us of things that happened in the past, and live on into our present.” Dr. Adrian Majuru, the Bucharest Municipality Museum’s Director. Over 60 images from archives, some exhibited for the very first time, come to life during the Salon. From classic characters to imaginary ones, from funny happenings to political events, and also subjects never before broached in comic strips, the Salon features all. “The Legend of Bucur” (author Mihai I. Grăjdeanu), for example, brings to the table a new concept for contemporary Romanian museums: comic strips featured in permanent and temporary museum exhibitions, the previously mentioned title now a part of the Bucharest Municipality Museum’s permanent exhibition. “The identity of the Romanian comic strip is at risk of being lost, due to a strong current of commercialization for comic strips on an international level. I have always claimed that us, the comic strip creators of Romania, ought to promote through comics Romanian comics and characters. How you draw, your style, and your chosen subject can make a difference!” Mihai Ionuţ Grăjdeanu. The Comic Strip Salon – “Bucharest stories in Comic Strips”, second edition, will be open from the 1st of July to the 31st of August at the Suţu Palace, headquarters of the Bucharest Municipality Museum. |
