MY NAME WAS CONSTANTIN BASARAB BRÂNCOVEANU – A CONFESSED STORY
“My Name was Constantin Basarab Brâncoveanu” is an opportunity to understand what your life would have been like at the end of the XVIIth century, and what it would be like to find yourself personally acquainted with the powers of the times. The first person narrative serves to relate the viewer to a character who lived long ago, offering one the opportunity to become his confidant. This exercise shows how close we really are, in what concerns simple emotions, desires, aspirations, and woes, to the people of the XVIIth century, and to Constantin Brâncoveanu himself.
The 15th of August marks the passing of three centuries since his martyrdom, as well as the passing of 360 years since his birth. This projects’ goal is to lessen the figurative distance between people of today and our XVIIth century counterparts, so similar in the ways of observing their own lives. If there is such a thing as a natural bond between people, which transcends time, then Constantin Brâncoveanu has something more to confess to each and every one of us today, however varied the manner in which it is delivered. “My Name was Constantin Basarab Brâncoveanu”, a confession about his life “lived with ice on his heart”, remains an always current story. The exhibition is open at the Municipal Museum of Bucharest, Suţu Palace (I.C. Brătianu Boulevard, nr.2), between October 15th 2014 and March 30th 2015. The exhibition’s varnishing day is Wednesday, October 15th, at 12:00, at Suţu Palace, featuring guests such as University Lecturer Dr. Octavian Buda (UMF Carol Davila), Emanuel Bădescu (The Romanian Academy Library) and Mr. Constantin Şerban Cantacuzino.
